Recently the Renault Kaptur was once again spotted testing in Chennai. The newest SUV from the French carmaker’s stables, the Kaptur will be launched in the Indian market in the upcoming festive season later this year.
In terms of design of the camouflaged car, the Kaptur seems to have borrowed the style bits from its international sibling such as the louvre grille, C-shaped LED daytime running lights and an aluminium skid plate. On the side profile, we see a quarter window on the A-pillar of the car for better visibility. The roof gradually swoops low towards the end of the car.
Previous spy shots of the interiors have revealed the dual tone dashboard dominated by Renault’s seven-inch media-nav system. A highlighted centre console with body coloured accents catch the eye, when in the cabin. An automatic climate control knob and the multifunction steering wheel was also visible along with the chrome bezel instrument cluster.
The Kaptur would be powered by the same drive train as the Duster as they would be based on the same platform. The engines on offer will be the same 1.5-litre diesel and petrol, but with a higher state of tune. Equipped with a manual, AMT and a CVT transmission as seen in the Duster, the Kaptur would provide a wide array of choices for gearbox, in accordance with the needs of the buyer. Since an All-Wheel-Drive drive train is already on offer in the Duster, it is quite likely to be carried forward in the Kaptur as well.
Although it hints at a more premium market currently occupied by the Tucson and the soon-to-be-launched Tiguan, once launched in the India, the Kaptur will rival against the XUV500 as a capable soft roader. The expected pricing is between Rs 12 – 16 lakh. The Kaptur will be manufactured at Renault-Nissan’s Chennai facility.
