Renault India is gearing up for a cracker of a festive season with the launch of its all-new small car Kwid. The French automaker has even started taking bookings for this new model, with the token amount ranging between Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000.
Named after the concept model shown at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Kwid is a five-seater hatchback with a rather rugged looking exterior design. The Kwid is underpinned by Renualt’s CMFA platform and will be produced at the brand’s Chennai factory with 98 per cent localisation.
The Kwid is likely to be powered by an 800cc three-cylinder petrol unit that will produce around 50bhp and 90Nm of torque. While there won’t be any diesel option for now, Renault is expected to also bring in a more powerful 1-litre in the future.
With booking process already in place, one can expect Renault Kwid to hit the showrooms in the next couple of months. When launched, the Kwid will compete with other entry-level small cars like Datsun GO, Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Spark.
