Renault India had announced that the global unveil of their new compact XBA hatchback will take place on May 20 in India. The vehicle is named as Kayou and just ahead of its official world premiere, the manufacturer has released a promo teasing the upcoming hatchback.
The Renault Kayou is based on the modular CMF-A platform and is the first car to be based on this platform. It is expected to be inspired by Renault's global design language, compact in size and get 13- or 14-inch wheels. Other equipment and feature list might be borrowed from the company's car line-up.
The new hatchback will be powered by an 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Renault is expected to add an automated manual transmission variant as well. However, there will be no diesel variant of the car.
This upcoming Kayou hatchback will be manufactured at the Chennai production facility under the Renault-Nissan alliance. The car is expected to be priced under Rs four lakh for the Indian market and might be exported to some markets overseas as well. It will be an entry-level model that will go up against the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon in our country.
