Renault recently unveiled the Kaptur SUV in Russia and is planning to start testing it in India. Reports suggest that the carmaker has already imported a prototype of the vehicle to our country.
The Renault Kaptur is a five-seater crossover that is 4,333mm long, 1,813mm wide, 1,613mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,606mm. The modern and sporty looking vehicle has a ground clearance of 204mm good enough to tackle rough terrain. The interior is more premium than what can be seen in the Duster's cabin and gets a whole load of different features. There is 387litres of boot space, which can be extended to 1,200litres with the folding option of the rear seat.
Globally, the Renault Kaptur comes powered by a 114bhp 1.6-litre engine and a 143bhp 2.0-litre mill. The Indian-spec Kaptur might get the 110bhp 1.5-litre K9K diesel from the Duster and also the 1.6-litre petrol unit. Transmission options will include the six-speed manual and automatic gearbox. We expect Renault India to also offer the AWD option in our country.
The Kaptur is based on the Duster's MO platform and is different from the Captur sold globally. This new SUV is for the developing markets and will be positioned above the Duster and below the Koleos in the Indian market. We can expect Renault to launch it in India in the latter half of 2017.
