Renault India might launch two new vehicles in 2015, of which one could be an MPV and the other, a small car. The company plans to increase its market share to about five per cent in a couple of years time from the current 2.6 per cent.
"We are ready with the next car. We have products in the pipeline which will give us volume and we want to cross 5 per cent market share in two years time," Renault's Country CEO and Managing Director Sumit Sawhney told reporters.
Sawhney adds, the market share will go up by three percent by end of March 2015.
The Duster is their bread and butter model in India, however that shouldn’t be the case, as in a market like India you need a volume seller to gain considerable market share. Although, the launch of their first MPV – the Lodgy, isn’t as exciting as the talks of a small car, which is big news. Currently, Renault has the Pulse which is a rebadged Micra sold at a premium over the car it is based on. In other news, Nissan seems to have refused to share the Datsun branded products with Renault. This indicates at a new product in the offing.
The Lodgy, will compete against the Honda Mobilio, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova. These are still early days to predict its pricing, but it won’t be launched at a shock price which we expect to happen with the Datsun GO+ MPV.
