Renault India is planning to launch three new models to get a larger share inthe Indian market. The proceedings will be done by the Duster all-wheel-drive, a sub Rs 4 lakh hatchback and an MPV to take on the likes of Honda Mobilio and Maruti Ertiga.
Currently, Renault ranks ninth in the Indian market when it comes to sales. In 2013, the Duster stood out in the Renault range by accounting for 75 per cent of the company’s total sales in India.
"We are targeting to increase our market share from the present 2.2 per cent to 5 per cent within two-three years with new products launches in the growing passenger car segment in the country. Currently, we are the youngest automobile brand in India. In the last two years, we have launched five models. We are the market leader with Duster in the mid-SUV segment. We are selling five models such as premium sedan Fluence, the luxury SUV Koleos, the premium compact car, Pulse, the SUV Duster and the premium sedan, Scala in the domestic market,” Sawhney said.
The introduction of the sub-Rs 4 lakh hatchback might give them the volumes and could boost the market share. The MPV segment is currently booming and every manufacturer wants a piece of it.
Commenting on MPV market, Sawhney said, "The MPV segment at about 12,000 units a month was growing rapidly. The improvement in infrastructure, frequent inter-city movement of aspiring families is fuelling growth of this segment which we would like aggressively tap."
Renault has realised that it cannot survive in a competitive market with a single successful product. However, we aren’t sure about their plans with a hatchback under four lakh rupees, but it won’t be the Datsun GO.
