The Renault Duster reinvented Renault India’s fortunes. This volume driver has now added another feather to its cap - of being influential as well. Renault influenced by the Duster’s success is looking to step into the waters of the fast-paced multi-utility vehicles (MUV) segment in India and is aiming to bring out a car that will be under the
Rs four lakh bracket.
Riding high on the success of the Duster, Renault has plans to bring in more variants of the car, probably milking it for all it's worth. A company official when asked about the dip in sales of the Duster said that now their famous product was going through a period of stablisation after enjoying some months of peak sales.
Elaborating on the company’s latest decision, Renault Chairman of Asia Pacific Region Gilles Normand said at the sidelines of the Tokyo Motor Show, “... The objective now is to make sure that in the next introduction of cars, we want to enter the significant segments or growing segments where we are not present today.”
One of his examples to prove his point was that one of the segments which is growing in India is the MUV segment and so it seems to be an area waiting to be explored by them. Another possibility, he said, is the below Rs four lakh segment, which accounts for 40 per cent of the Indian passenger car market, as the company's current line-up is starting above the said amount.
"These two segments are quite important for us,” he added. “We are definitely working on the next wave of products, out of which one will be connected to a fast growing segment in India and the other one will be from the global line-up for the India market," Normand explained.
