Already available in a few international markets, the Renault Duster 4x4 is set to arrive in India. If recent sources are to be believed, this range-topping all-wheel drive version is likely to go on sale in September.
The Duster 4x4 will be offered only in the top-spec 110PS diesel variant, which means the familiar 110bhp 1.5-litre K9K diesel unit will be seen powering the vehicle. While the export 4x4 model is offered in both petrol and diesel versions, Renault India is expected to offer only the diesel version for the Indian market.
Power will be transmitted to all four wheels using a 6-speed manual gearbox. For varied off-road use, three different modes – a two-wheel drive high, four-wheel drive low and four-wheel drive high will be made available.
The Duster 4x4 is expected to carry a premium of around Rs 80,000 over the regular 110PS RxZ variant. When launched, the Duster 4x4 will be the most expensive variant of the popular compact SUV and will mainly compete with the Mahindra Scorpio 4x4.
The Duster has been on sale long enough in the Indian market to be given a host of upgrades: something which Renault India is planning to do with the facelifted model. Until the latter comes along, Renault will introduce the 4x4 version to further enhance the vehicle’s versatility factor.
