The Renault Fluence’s facelifted version will be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014 in February. The car now looks contemporary as compared to the current version on sale.
The Fluence will get its second update this year, following its launch in 2011. In 2012, a year after its launch, the company launched a facelifted version; the changes were cosmetic and minimal but was an effort in vain as the sales remained dull. A picture released on the official 2014 Auto Expo twitter page reveals that the car is now much more contemporary-looking and might attract buyers. The 2014 Fluence gets all-new bumpers, a new grille adorns the front fascia, new headlamps and tail lights add more flair complete with all-new alloy wheels.
The French carmaker’s big saloon car is assembled through the CKD route and sports two engines. Renault’s styling for the current Fluence was much understated and the interiors were sophisticated, which didn’t find favour with the masses. It was launched with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and the reliable K9K 1.5-litre diesel mill that does duty in four of Renault’s five cars sold in India using a different tuning. However, this engine was not sufficient for the Fluence; the competition had more powerful engines and it was deemed underpowered in comparison.
Despite the car being good in certain areas, the current Fluence’sunconventional looks and lack of powerful motors ensured it ended up as an alternative to the customer who wanted something different. The all-new Fluence’s updates are very convincing and it looks like it belongs to a segment above. Renault India would hope to sell more Fluences this year and how customers receive it has to be seen.
