A four-wheel drive version of the Renault Duster has been spotted in Kerala by the crew at team-bhp. There is not much to indicate that this is the four-wheel drive version expect for a sticker on the back which signifies the drive. This spec of the Duster is sold in most foreign market but has not been included for the Indian market at present due a high price tag that it will carry if brought here.
What is most odd about the this car that has been snapped is the fact that despite Renault having its plant outside Chennai, the four-wheel drive Duster has been snapped with a set of temporary Kerala registration plates. It could either be a test mule or someone wanting to show that their Renault Duster is a little different from everyone else.
The UK Spec Renault (Dacia) Duster uses the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that powers one of our variants. This diesel mill produces 108bhp and 248Nm of torque. The UK market also gets the option of a 1.6-litre petrol mill which produces 105bhp and 148Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all four-wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a Nissan derived four wheel drive system which operates via rotary dial on the dash board.
It must be noted that this car is manufactured at the Chennai facility and is exported from there to the UK and other international RHD markets. Reports suggest that that the four-wheel drive version if introduced for the Indian market will cost a lakh over the equivalent two-wheel drive variant.
