- Expected to be a coupe-SUV based on the Captur
- Will be unveiled at the 2018 Moscow Motor Show
- Launch in Russia before other global markets
- B0 platform underpinned
The Renault Arkana crossover will be unveiled tomorrow at the 2018 Moscow Motor Show. It’s expected to be a coupe-SUV styled vehicle that’s underpinned by Renault’s B0 platform. This platform is already in use with vehicles like the India spec Captur and Duster.
Arkana, derived from the Latin word arcum meaning secret, has been teased in a couple of images released by Renault and these show that the car will share its face with Captur in terms of overall appearance. However, it is what’s there after the C-pillar is what we are interested in as this will be one of the first budget vehicles to don this style of design that has so far been the forte of premium brands. This vehicle is expected make use of the same engine and transmission option available for the Russian market spec Captur.
Renault has said that the Arkana will be specific to the Russian market. But over the course of the next year it is expected to find its way to other parts of the globe. From an Indian perspective, the Arkana will be a rival to the Jeep Compass, taking a spot above the Captur. Here, volumes are relatively lower and something innovative like the Arkana would actually have a chance to succeed.
