We have lost count of the number of times we have written about a brand new version of the Tata Nano hitting the market. The Nano, as we know, has had a tough life so far and Tata Motors has made constant efforts to improve its little wonder in every way possible.
After introducing a slew of upgraded versions spanning from special editions to CNG and power steering-equipped models, Tata Motors has decided to up the ante with the most powerful version of the Nano yet.
The Nano, in fact, is all set to receive a 1-litre, turbocharged petrol engine which will be mated to a slick-shifting 5-speed manual gearbox. Now we do not have many details on this new turbocharged unit but going by our sources working closely with Tata Motors, the Nano’s engine could well be a downsized version of the all-new 1.2-litre Revotron engine revealed earlier in the year.
Expect the turbocharged Nano to produce anywhere between 70 to 80bhp and around 130Nm of torque. The figures mark a significant rise in power when compared to the existing Nano’s 624cc engine which puts out just 37bhp and 51Nm of torque. The additional thrust is sure to turn the Nano from a cheap mode of transport into a micro hot hatch! Now we are not sure how well this new performance-focused version of the Nano will be welcomed in the market, but what we do know is that we have successfully fooled you thus far. Happy April Fools Day!
