Amateur go-karting tournament, the Red Bull Kart Fight, has begun in Mumbai and the qualifiers will go on until September. Winner of the series will get a chance to attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit.
Go-karting is the first step into motor racing. You can start at a very young age with the kid-karts, and graduate to faster machines as you grow older, honing your skills. Mira Erda, one of India’s few female racers, who has made a mark at the Euro JK 17 series, inaugurated the event setting a lap-time of about 37 seconds in her first outing. At 16 years of age, Mira had also started with karting before moving on to bigger formula cars.
The Red Bull Kart fight will select 20 fastest drivers every month for the finals. The ten fastest overall from a city over the three month period will get entry to the national finals to be held in Bangalore in October. The overall winner at the national finals will get a chance to witness the Abu Dhabi GP later this year.
