Land Rover has recalled 3,912 units of the Range Rover in North America. News is that 2013 and 2014 variants of the flagship SUV will be checked for airbag issues.
In the specified models, the company will examine if the supplemental restraint system (SRS) connector is attached correctly or not. The manufacturer is afraid that if this connector is not properly attached, the side airbags for either of the two, the driver or the front passenger, may not get deployed in the event of a crash. This attachment is placed in the seats of the driver and co-passenger and might get loose or detached due to inadequate clearance in the connector’s housing.
The British car manufacturer does not want to take a chance considering the possibility of a capable risk in case of any unfortunate accident and the airbags not functioning at that moment. According to documents filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it is confirmed that there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue. Nevertheless, the automaker seems it viable to get an analysis done, and if required a rectification as well.
Land Rover announced that the issue is restricted to the driver and front passenger side airbags only and the respective customers will be informed about the recall. The recall is expected to start from January 17 and if the connector is found faulty, the dealer will replace or modify it ensuring it doesn’t come off. The consumers will not be charged for the amendment done.
