Back in March, Land Rover showcased the Range Rover Velar SUV at the Geneva Motor Show. The Velar was initially expected to be introduced in India in 2018, however the company has revealed its plans to launch the vehicle this year, instead. Bookings for the Range Rover Velar have begun and the price for the same will be revealed on 21 September followed by an official launch soon after.
The upcoming Velar SUV will be the fourth car from the Range Rover family and it is likely to be offered with a petrol and diesel engine option at launch. For India, Land Rover might offer the 2.0-litre petrol that generates 247bhp and 265Nm of torque. The diesel version is expected to come in two engine options – a 3.0-litre V6 engine that generates 296bhp of power and 700Nm of torque, while the other might be a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Ingenium engine that generates 177bhp of power and 430Nm of torque. All the engine options version will come mated to an eight-speed gearbox with all-wheel-drive as standard.
Interestingly, the new model gets flush door handles that gives it a striking, clean and uninterrupted form. Inside, the Velar gets Kvadrat premium textile that makes use of wool-blend cloth as an alternative to leather. Moreover, it comes with a Touch Pro Duo system that offers two high-definition touchscreens. The front gets a dominant bold grille that sets the tone for Velar’s design language and the Matrix-Laser LED lights that gives it a sporty appeal. The SUV gets copper detailing on the bonnet vents, front bumper blades and side vents.
The Range Rover Velar will be positioned between the Evoque and the larger Range Rover Sport SUV. On the pricing aspect, we believe that the Range Rover Velar might be priced between Rs 60 lakhs – Rs 70 lakhs (Ex-showroom). After launch, the Velar will compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5 and the Audi Q7 in India.
