The images of the Range Rover Sport have surfaced (leaked) on the internet a day before its official launch at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Over the course of the last two weeks Land Rover has released two teasers of the upcoming SUV, while a spy picture of the Sport also appeared online revealing the exteriors.
The 2014 Range Rover Sport is as the name suggests a sportier version of the standard Range Rover. It will be underpinned by the same light-weight aluminium chassis that has been fitted on the standard 2014 Range Rover. This has allowed the car to lose over 420kgs and this should help reinforce its sporty credentials.
In terms of design, the car has the two-tone body paint, a slightly modified grille and blacked out headlights. What is also evident is the revised position of the air vents on the side and the low and sloping roof line that has been derived from the Evoque crossover.
The powertrain option is expected to include the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, the turbocharged 5.0-litre V8 and the 3.0-litre V6 diesel. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via the ZF eight speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system. Land Rover might also offer its nine-speed gearbox as an optional extra.
Since the Range Rover Sport is a CBU in the Indian market, it is sure to arrive at our shores (albeit in a more sombre tone) a few months after it is officially launched.
