Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover is looking forward to opening a new chapter for its China operations. The brand is preparing to start the production process at the all-new plant in China, which is one of the fastest growing luxury car markets.
According to the report, the Range Rover Evoque will be the first model to be made at the new facility since the demand for this premium mid-size SUV is quite high in China. The Evoque, in fact, enjoys the highest demand among Chinese buyers compared to the rest of the Land Rover line-up.
Located in Changhsu, northeast of Shanghai, the new production facility is courtesy the joint venture with China's Chery Automobile. The production is expected to begin late October onwards. Once it is scheduled, the Changhsu facility will be Land Rover’s first full-scale production facility outside the UK. This also includes an engine plant that will be operational starting next year. The latter will produce JLR’s new range of Ingenium four cylinder engines.
While the China-made Evoque will be reserved for the local market, Land Rover will continue to produce the SUV in England, for other markets. Apart from this, there is also talk of a long wheelbase version of the XE designed specifically for the Chinese market. Given China’s liking for long wheelbase vehicles, it makes sense for Jaguar to produce a long wheelbase version of the XE in China.
