Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd. has imported a convertible variant of the Range Rover Evoque in India. This single unit has been brought to our country for homologation, hinting at the impending launch of this model for the Indian market.
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible had made its debut in November 2015. It is the open top version of the SUV and is pitted to be the most capable convertible SUVs in the world. Apart from its versatile capabilities, the SUV's main highlight is the soft-top roof with a glass rear screen tucked under a plastic cover located behind the rear seats. This fully-automated roof has a Z-fold mechanism with the help of which it closes in 18 seconds and can close in 21 seconds at speeds of 48kmph.
According to import data, only the HSE Dynamic variant has been brought to the Indian shores and we can expect only this trim to go on sale. It comes powered by a 2.0-litre Si4 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 237bhp of power and 340Nm of torque. This mill comes mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and power is sent all the wheels via a four-wheel drive system. While the car can do the 0-100 sprint in 8.6 seconds, it also reaches a top-speed of 209kmph.
Land Rover had announced that they plan to launch this top-down version of the Evoque in about 170 countries by the end of 2016. It seems the carmaker's Indian counterpart is preparing to launch the most capable luxurious convertible SUV in the world sometime soon. It will be sold in India through the CBU route.
