Qoros Automobile has revealed the first official images of their upcoming electric supercar bound for the Shanghai Motor Show. Christened as K-EV, this futuristic Concept is a preview to a possible future production model depending upon the response it garners at the Shanghai stage.
The drivetrain of the K-EV is all electric, although no details of the powertrain's output and capabilities have been revealed as yet. However, we know that the K-EV will employ an all-wheel-drive system borrowed from the Koenigsegg Regera plug-in hybrid supercar. The body shell of the K-EV is what Qoros calls ‘clever carbon cabin’, which simply means that it lavishly uses carbon fibre in its construction. The lightweight carbon-fibre monocoque will allow a zero to a 100kmph time of 3seconds and the car will have a range of 500km, asserts Qoros.
The Chinese-Israeli automotive manufacturing company teased the ‘Super EV’ a few days back, but very little could be gleaned from those images. These new official images, however, promise exciting features like asymmetrical doors, for instance. The driver’s side sports a gull-wing door whereas the passenger side gets a conventional one. The front passenger, however, has a double-hinge system to open either outward or horizontally. Though these unconventional doors aren’t seen in the images we have here, but hope to see this crazy set-up in the coming weeks when the car is put on display at the auto show.
This is the second time Qoros has teamed up with Koenigsegg. Previously, the Chinese firm borrowed the cam-less engine technology of Koenigsegg subsidiary FreeValve for a concept car, called the QamFree late last year. The production version of the K-EV will be sold under the Qoros banner, which the Shanghai-based carmaker intends to put into action by 2019.
