The Steam punk(ish) Nissan IDx concept car may actually go into production and revive the famous Silvia moniker. The production version of this car is expected to be influenced by the Sports Sedan Concept but is expected to keep a lot of retro-futuristic looks.
Reports suggests that the car will be a direct rival to Toyota’s GT86 and will be powered by either a supercharged 1.2-litre four pot motor or a more rev happy 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. Gearboxes are expected to include a six-speed manual/AT which, if you have guessed by now, will power the rear wheels.
When do we get to see what is frankly expected to be a fantastic vehicle? The probable debut date is the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show after which the car is likely to go on sale in late 2017 and will be followed half-a-year later by the Nismo version.
The Nissan Silvia is a name virtually unknown to India as it has remained mostly a Japanese spec car. However, those who have watched Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift will remember it as the car that Han Seoul-Oh lends Sean Boswell when the latter first challenges Takashi a.k.a Drift King to a race down the multi-level parking lot. The car gets trashed by the end of the race but becomes the engine donor for the Mustang Nismo which Sean races in the final challenge.
