- The H5X concept was revealed at Auto Expo 2018
- Testing has begun with the prototype body since April
- Slated for a November reveal and nation-wide campaigning before the 2019 launch
Tata Motors is all set to reveal its new premium-SUV based on the H5X concept by November this year. After testing the new Omega platform underneath the Discovery Sport body shell for a long time, the H5X body-shell has been spotted on the test-mule earlier this month for the first time.
There have been many speculations regarding the H5X and Tata has been tight-lipped about what the final product would be. The safest guess is a rival to the Hyundai Creta - a five-seater premium crossover SUV to compete in one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian market as of now. But knowing that the underpinnings have been derived from the Freelander platform, the H5X could also be a Jeep Compass-rival in the making. Also with the new platform designed to be modular, the H5X can also spawn a seven-seat SUV, something that could ideally wear the Safari-badge with pride.Â
With the launch of the Hexa and the success of the Nexon launched last year, Tata Motors would ideally have liked to introduce the H5X and the 45X concepts in 2018 itself. With almost three more quarters to go before the launch of the H5X, Tata Motors will want to keep the wind in its sails which might also be the reason why the H5X would debut in 2018 almost two to three months before its actual launch.
