Suzuki will debut, at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the production version of the S Cross crossover that made its debut at 2012 Paris Motor Show. The Japanese automaker recently released a video showing the S-Cross (sure to get a different name) travelling on various terrains including the urban environment where it is expected to make its home.
The glimpses in the video show us that most of the C-segment crossover is similar to the production vehicle save for clear glass headlamps and repositioning of the LED lights from the bumper to the light cluster. It is based on a new platform and will be positioned above the SX4 crossover but below the Grand Vitara SUV.
In the global markets it is likely that the S-Cross will be a five-seater and use the Suzuki 2.0-litre petrol engine and the 1.9-litre Fiat multijet turbo engine. Power is likely to be transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic.
Maruti may bring the vehicle to India but much later as it has never tasted success with anything other than small cars. The Indian spec S-Cross (if we get it) will be powered by the standard set of Suzuki 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre Fiat multijet diesel engine of which we expect that latter to be the 90bhp version. It is expected to compete with vehicles like the Renault Duster, Nissan Qasqahi, Ford EcoSport and the Peugeot 3008.
