A camouflaged next generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been spotted doing the rounds outside New Delhi. The design, licence plate number and test location are all give aways that this is a Maruti Suzuki badged vehicle.
These early pictures give us an idea that this car is longer than the Ertiga and could possibly see the MPV being extended in length to make it a better value proposition. Sharing its underpinnings with the Dzire and Swift with one being updated earlier this year and the other due to get the same in 2018, it only makes sense for the Ertiga to get a new generation. It is still too early to predict any kind of update but it is almost certain that the new car will get the 1.4-litre petrol and a new 1.5-litre diesel that Maruti is rumoured to be working on.
The Ertiga is a bit of an odd ball in the Indian market. At a time when SUVs are on a path to dominate everything else, Maruti is able to retail around 5000 of them every month. There should be no doubt that a large part of the Ertiga’s sales come from the fleet market, but still 5000 is a damn good number!
Expect more test mules to be spotted over the coming months and official information to trickle out once the next generation Swift has been launched next year.
