Toyota is popular for their cost effective and reliable products in every segment. Recently, it was observed that the manufacturers are making luxury their priority too. Even as auto enthusiasts are waking up to this fact, an updated Toyota Vios, a ‘C+’ segment sedan was spotted testing in Thailand. Although the vehicle is not new to the Thai market, this updated Vios is expected to make its way to the Indian market.
The camouflaged vehicle did not reveal much about the cosmetic changes it has undergone, but it shows different styling lines on the boot compared to the current model. The rear bumper has been reworked, but styling has been kept to a minimum. The side profile has not been changed, but the shoulder lines apparently differ from the current generation Vios.
Nothing can be confirmed yet about the front fascia as we do not have any shots of the front. But the updated Vios might carry a restyled headlamp assembly. The large grille integrated into the front bumper in the current model might also be carried forward into the facelifted version with scoops for DRLs in it.
Powering the current generation Vios is a 1.5-litre petrol engine, mated to a seven speed CVT Shift lock gearbox as standard. The model in Thailand produces 108bhp and 149Nm of torque. This will change if the manufacturers decides to launch the Vios for the Indian market. If launched in India, the Vios will be offered with both manual and automatic variants.
It has also been a long time since the company was last spotted testing the vehicle in Bangalore, India. The vehicle is expected to make a debut in the second quarter of 2018, which is still a year away.
When launched in India, the Vios will be positioned between Toyota Etios and Toyota Corolla Altis. The car will compete against the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny and Renault Scala.
