Porsche has revealed new performance specifications for the Porsche 918 Spyder that boasts of great numbers for the hybrid supercar. Apparently, the makers are saying, the car is so fast that it beats itself. Like they say, the numbers are doing the talking. The car can accelerate from 0 - 62 mph achieved in 2.6 seconds; 0 - 186 mph in under 20 seconds. With these figures this super sports car from the Stuttgart automaker becomes the fastest ever road-going Porsche.
The speed is achieved thanks to the lightweight track-focused Weissach package – featuring improved aerodynamics, magnesium wheels, six-point racing harnesses and reducing weight by 45kg. Further what is driving this piece of German machinery is a 4.6-litre V8 petrol and two electric motors. The 918 Spyder can also be operated as a pure electric vehicle, still capable of clocking a 6.2sec 0-100kmh time (6.1sec with the Weissach package fitted).
Porsche has begun production of its 918 Spyder at its facility in Zuffenhausen. Only 918 units of the car will be produced. The hypercar was unveiled by the German automaker at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and will be their new flagship rocket on wheels. The 918 has been priced at 657, 400 GBP (Rs 6.6 crore) but will cost 718,000 GBP (Rs 7.2 crore) if fitted with the optional Weissach package. Deliveries for the car are expected to begin by the end of this year.
