Porsche has unveiled the 2014 Cayman at the 2012 Auto Show. This third-generation car, in the German automaker's words, has been redesigned to become lower, longer, lighter (by 30kg) and faster as well as more fuel efficient.
Porsche will launch the mid-engined coupe in two variants; the Cayman and the Cayman S. The former, dubbed the standard variant, is powered by a 2.7-litre six-cylinder engine that produces 275bhp and has a 0-100kmph time of 5.1 seconds. The Cayman S on the other hand is powered by a 3.4-litre mill which produces 325bhp and is capable of accelerating the car to a top speed of 283kmph. Both models are offered with the PDK (double-clutch) gearbox and the optional Sport Chrono package.
While the Cayman has been priced at USD 52,600 (Rs 30 lakh before taxes) its more ‘sportier’ sibling the Cayman S will cost USD 63,800 (Rs 35.5 lakh before taxes). Deliveries for both vehicles will begin in April 2013. Since the Cayman is brought to India as a CBU, we can expect Porsche India to start offering this model a few months after deliveries in Europe begin.
