German sportscar maker Porsche will unveil the new 2013 Carrera 4 and 4S at Paris Motor Show in September. The major revision for the model is the inclusion of four-wheel-drive system, which will now be available across all four models of the Carrera range.
Based on the 911 platform that was launched last year, the car will retain all the features of the previous model like the Porsche traction management system, along with some upgrades that includes a better tuned engine and a lighter body.
The car is wider than the 911 and this increase in width has been balanced out by wider rear tyres. Due to the sharing of components with the rear-wheel-drive model, the new car is expected to weigh around 67 kilos lesser than its predecessor making it as much as 16 per cent more fuel efficient.
Powering the new Carrera will be a 3.8-litre boxer engine that produces 350bhp in the Carrera coupe, while the bigger 4S models will produce around 400bhp. For now the engine will be mated to a 7-speed manual, while the PDK gearbox is also expected to be an available option. Porsche will also give adaptive cruise control across the entire range.
