Amidst reports that Porsche will no longer manufacture diesel engine options, the company has clarified that it will offer a diesel version in the new-generation Cayenne. The company had last showcased the new Cayenne at last year’s Frankfurt Auto Show. Although plans are limited to the new-generation Cayenne, the company might also consider the new powertrain in the Macan as well.
Detlev Von Platen, Porsche sales chief, stated that importance of diesel powertrain is not too high and only 14 per cent of total cars sold worldwide are diesel. However, Cayenne being a popular selling model for the company, will still go ahead with plans for a diesel engine in the new-gen model. The Macan is also expected to be offered in hybrid and battery-electric versions when the next generation arrives in as early as 2021.
More details on Porsche’s diesel engine plans will be known in the days to come.
