German car maker Porsche will launch a turbo-diesel version of its SUV the Cayenne. The new car will be powered by a 4.2-litre twin turbo V8 producing 382bhp and 850Nm of torque. Expected to reach a top speed of 252kmph, the Cayenne will do 0-100 in just 5.7 seconds.
The new car has been fitted with revised features which include larger brakes identified by its silver brake callipers and a start-stop system which is expected to give the car a fuel efficiency of 12kmpl. An optional extra being offered is the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus which is expected to improve handling. Visual cues include the “diesel” badges at the front ends of the wings and model badge at the rear that identifies it as a Cayenne S.
In a move that appears to direct the Cayenne towards families as a luxury carrier, Porsche has said that The Cayenne S Diesel is an ideal vehicle when towing and manoeuvring boats or horse trailers. The car is expected to have sufficient power even when working at its maximum towing capacity of 3.5 metric tonnes. The luxury SUV will go on sale from January 2013.
