The mini SUV from Porsche is all set to move to the production phase by the end of this year. The car will be manufactured at Porsche's Leipzig facility and will most likely be unveiled at this year’s Los Angeles Motor Show.
Porsche had earlier announced that the Macan will be the first production car to house the new turbocharged inline four cylinder boxer engine, though the power ratings for the engine have not been revealed yet. The car is built on a heavily modified Audi Q5 platform and will also share the 3.0 turbo V6 diesel engine from its cousin. Apart from these two engine option, the Macan will also be powered by a turbocharged V6 petrol for the Macan S variant.
The car will be the cheapest offering from the Porsche’s stable and will be on sale from the beginning of 2014. The Cayenne’s success story is expected to be followed by the Macan as the company expects to sell 50,000-75,000 units per year of the model. Prices and the variant descriptions are expected to be announced closer to the launch.
Porsche has not released its plans to introduce the Macan in India, but the increasing affinity for mini SUVs in India will most likely prompt Porsche to bring the car here and if they do, the model will sit below the Cayman at around Rs 60 lakh as the most affordable Porsche.
