We recently reviewed the Porsche Macan Turbo and needless to say we were highly impressed. But with prices starting upwards of a crore, the Macan was in a niche segment. Now Porsche has decided to bring in the Macan with a 2.0 litre petrol engine which will bring down prices and make the baby Porsche SUV more affordable.
A lot of things work in Porsche’s favor with the 2.0 litre engine. Engines below 2000 cc benefit from lower duties which brings down the prices. Also this being a 2.0 litre is no slouch either. With 252 bhp on tap, the Macan 2.0 will still hit a 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and hit 230 km/h. You also get 7-speed PDK gearbox, Porsche’s Active suspension management system and all the features from the bigger engine variants which will make it extremely good value.
The Macan 2.0 will go head on against the Jaguar F-Pace, which also comes with a 2.0 litre petrol engine but will be launched next year. For now the F-Pace will compete straight with the Macan S diesel. But the 2.0 petrol engine should give the Macan a head start.
Expect the Macan 2.0 to be launched next month with a price tag under Rs. 80 lakh. The bookings for the same have already begun. Keep watching this space for more.
