- Prices start at 105,000 Euros
- Only two motors with a reduced electric range
After revealing their first-ever pure-electric car – the Taycan, with much fanfare, Porsche has already expanded its line-up without wasting any time. Called the Taycan 4S, it is an ‘affordable’ trim with a smaller powertrain and a reduced range but with a same style quotient as the Turbo guise.
Powering the 4S is a pack of two batteries delivering a combined output of 390kW (523bhp) and can be bumped up to 420kW (563bhp) with a Performance Pack. A single-deck battery with a total capacity of 79.2 kWh comes as standard but a two-deck performance battery found in the Turbo version is also offered as optional bringing up the capacity to 93.4kWh.
Regardless of the pack, the Taycan 4S has a top speed of 250kmph and a 0-100kmph time of four seconds. Meanwhile, the range offered is 407 kilometres (463 kilometres with the Performance battery) under WLTP cycle. And the maximum charging capacity is 225kW or 270kW, respectively.
In terms of hardware, the Taycan 4S packs almost everything offered with the more expensive version. So there’s the Porsche 4S chassis control system, adaptive air suspension with PASM, six-piston callipers with 360mm discs up front and four-piston callipers with 358mm discs at the back. It’s got a motor on each axle, so the Taycan 4S also has the all-wheel-drive layout as the Turbo along with the same two-speed transmission on the rear axle.
However, in terms of appearance, the 4S is equipped with newly-designed 19-inch Aero alloy wheels and red brake callipers. Apart from that, there are changes on the front apron, side sills and rear diffuser which are finished in black. The LED headlights with PDLS system comes as a standard. The cabin remains unchanged as seen on the Turbo versions. Porsche is also offering partial leather upholstery as well as eight-way electrical adjustment seats. But, for the first time, there’s an eco-friendly option of a leather-free interior made of recycled materials
The Porsche Taycan 4S is priced at 105,607 euros in Germany (approx. Rs 82.9 lakh) and is slated to hit the showrooms in January 2020. We could expect Porsche to bring in the 4S in India as well when they launch the electric Taycan in the country.
