Yes, we know that a lot of cars catch fire every day throughout the world but it is always disheartening to report about fires involving supercars. For years, we have been hearing about Ferraris and Lamborghinis igniting into a ball of flames but the latest to fall prey to this fiery behaviour comes from neither of the two brands.
It is in fact one from the sensible Germans from Stuttgart. If recent reports are to be believed, Porsche – one of the leading sportscar makers in the market, has stopped deliveries of the 991-gen 911 GT3 after incidents involving the car catching fire in recent weeks.
The latest incident to have reported comes from Switzerland in which the car was declared a total loss. Fortunately, the driver made his way out of the car well in time to tell the story. The driver was at the wheel when he heard a strange noise from the engine bay. After stepping out, he noticed oil leaking and smoke coming out of the bay. Not much later, the Porsche caught fire and was eventually doused by the fire department.
As the report states, Porsche has stopped deliveries of all the new 911 GT3 units until they figure out what’s causing the fire. Let us all hope they find the cause before another unfortunate incident is claimed.
