There have been some major changes in Porsche’s sports car line-up in recent times. Besides introducing the new turbocharged 911 range, the German brand has now revealed the new 718 Boxster range. In the twenty years since its debut, the Boxster has established itself as the benchmark performance roadster. And now, a new generation of the two-seater model has been unveiled.
The new Boxster is powered by a newly-developed range of flat four-cylinder engines with turbocharging. At the same time, Porsche has also introduced a new designation; 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S.
Design wise, this new range can be differentiated by the new bi-xenon headlights, larger air intakes, new door handles, LED taillights and different side air intakes. Inside, the interior is mostly the same expect for the new steering wheel and circular air vents.
Some major changes have been implemented underneath the car wherein you will find a 2-litre turbocharged boxer engine with 300bhp on tap. Despite being smaller than the 2.7-litre flat six engine in the previous model, the four-cylinder engine produces an additional 35bhp. The 718 Boxster S, meanwhile, has a bigger 2.5-litre engine which develops 350bhp with its power literally boosted by its use of a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. In fact, Porsche is now the only manufacturer to offer this technology in production cars with petrol engines, both in the 911 Turbo and the 718 Boxster S.
Porsche has announced that the new Boxster range is now on sale both in Europe and the US.
