As if the stunning 911 GT3 RS wasn’t fit for the track, Porsche has notched it up a level and introduced the all-new 911 GT3 R - a race-spec model for GT3 category racing around the world. The latter is based on the production-spec 911 GT3 RS and is now on sale with deliveries scheduled to begin from December onwards.
In developing the 500bhp plus race-spec 911, special attention was paid to its lightweight design, enhanced aerodynamic efficiency, improved safety as well as lowering service and spare parts costs. Like the road-going model, the 911 GT3 R features the distinctive double-bubble roof, and the wheelbase which has been lengthened by 8.3cm compared to the previous generation. Porsche says this ensures a more balanced weight distribution and more predictable handling particularly in fast corners in comparison to the previous GT3 R.
Powering the new 911 GT3 R is a 4-litre flat-six unit which is largely identical to the production engine of the road-going 911 GT3 RS. Power from the rear-mounted engine is transferred to the rear wheels via a sequential 6-speed constant-mesh gearbox. Like in 911 GT road cars, there are steering column mounted paddle shifters as standard.
To save as much weight as possible, the roof, front cover, wheel arches, doors, side and tail sections as well as the rear cover are made of particularly light carbon-fibre composite material (CFRP). Even all the windows (including the windscreen) comprise of polycarbonate.
Porsche has announced that the new 911 GT3 R can be ordered for a cool 429,000 Euro (Rs 3.09 crore), with deliveries expected to begin from December 2015, so if your second name is Singhania and you fancy a finely built hard-core race car, you might want to take a look.
