Porsche has officially taken the covers off the new Cayenne GTS, which represents the sportiest form of the luxury SUV. Since the inception of the 904 Carrera GTS in 1963, the Cayenne GTS became the first Porsche of the modern era to revive the GTS nameplate when it arrived in 2007. Now, Porsche has unveiled the new Cayenne GTS with better driving dynamics and updated interiors.
Design wise, the GTS model differentiates itself from the rest of the Cayenne range with its large air intakes and the Sport Design package, including more contoured side sills and wheel arch extensions. The GTS also gets the 20-inch wheels in the RS Spyder design, bi-xenon headlights and darkened LED rear lights. Inside, Porsche has added a new set of sports seats finished in leather and alcantara. The SUV also gets GTS-branded headrests.
The new GTS is powered by the same naturally aspirated V8 engine as the previous GTS model. Porsche, however, has raised the power output by 20bhp to 440bhp and torque by 85Nm to 600Nm. The fuel efficiency is also slightly higher compared to the outgoing model. Thanks to the higher power output, the Cayenne GTS can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 5.2 seconds, or just 5.1 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package. In comparison, that's 0.5 and 0.6 seconds respectively less than the previous model.
With the standard steel-spring suspension the GTS sits 24mm lower, while with the optional air suspension the figure is 20mm. Further standard features include the brakes from the Cayenne Turbo with 390mm discs on the front axle and 358mm at the back. The callipers are painted red in typical Turbo fashion.
The new Cayenne GTS will make its public debut on November 19, at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Porsche has announced that it will be put on sale immediately, with prices starting at £72,523 (Rs 71.09 lakh). The existing GTS can be ordered for sale here in the Indian market, meaning Porsche shouldn’t have much problem introducing this updated model for its Indian customers.
