The Macan has been a runaway success for Porsche, with rumours suggesting that all the allotted 50,000 units for the year have been sold out. Porsche though has introduced the Macan in only three variants - Macan S, diesel S and the Turbo. While Porsche is struggling to meet demand for its hot new SUV, spy shots of a Macan testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife have emerged indicating at a more powerful Turbo S in the making.
There is no strong evidence to suggest this is the Turbo S, but a few reasons tell us that it might be the most powerful Macan on test. The Macan has been introduced recently so there is no reason for a camouflaged model to be testing as we expect Porsche to launch a facelift next year. Secondly, it cannot be a GTS either as that badge usually makes it to Porsches only after the top of the line variant.
The Macan turbo is powered by a 3.6-litre V6 engine producing 394bhp and 550Nm of torque. These are still early days to predict how much Porsche will boost the engine, but we expect it to get at least 450bhp. Although Porsche might be a bit wary about the Macan Turbo S that with its lighter kerb weight it might end up being quicker than the Cayenne Turbo S. But, that shouldn’t stop them from adding the Turbo S moniker to the Macan as both vehicles appeal to a different set of customers.
Porsche recently launched the Macan in India for a starting price of Rs 1 crore. We get the Macan in two variants - S diesel and the Turbo.
