Porsche might launch the Macan SUV in India this year. There are rumours that the SUV may be launched anytime between May-June. Porsche has been delaying the launch until now due to the changes in the Indian political scene. As once the new budget and policies are in place the company can price the vehicle accordingly.
In India, the Macan might be sold in two versions to begin with, a top of the line Macan S Diesel and the Macan Turbo. The Turbo will come with a 3.6-litre bi-turbo petrol engine that makes 400bhp of max power and 550Nm of torque. The company claims the SUV can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.8 seconds and will max out at 266kmph in the turbo guise. The other variant, the Macan S Diesel, is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 mill producing a maximum power of 258bhp and 580Nm of torque. The diesel variant can achieve a top speed of 230kmph and do 0-100kph in 6.3 seconds. This Macan S Diesel has a claimed fuel economy figure of 19 kmpl in the UK cycle which is impressive. Both models will have PDK and all-wheel-drive as standard fare.
The Macan may not be homologated in India and will be brought through the CBU route. Porsche India has said that the Macan sold here will be feature rich to justify the hefty price tag, says a source. The company hasn’t said anything about the pricing, but we can expect it to cost around Rs 90 lakh.
The Macan may be one of the most successful models in the history of Porsche and according to rumours the allotted 50,000 units of the SUV for 2014 have been sold out. This raises speculations about the number of vehicles coming to India and whether Porsche may exceed the allotted number for the year. Until these questions are answered, watch this space.
