The Porsche Macan mid-size SUV has been spotted testing in China. Porsche unveiled the Macan at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November this year and is accepting orders for it. The car will be delivered to customers from April 2014 onwards. The China spec car has been spotted by a fan of Car News China in Beijing sans camouflage car and had no badges on the rear.
The Macan in China will be available with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol with an output of 335bhp or a turbocharged 3.6-litre V6 churning out 395bhp. The German car maker will provide a small 2.0-litre turbocharged engine which will be the entry level Macan for the Chinese market.
The lack of badges make it anybody’s guess on what model it was, however we couldn’t stop but think this was the Macan with the smaller motor. Interestingly the car had a temporary registration of Shanghai, which is a good 2,000 kms far from Beijing; this shows Porsche is taking every step possible to make its small SUV the best in class. The Macan will compete against the Land Rover Evoque and Jaguar’s forthcoming SUV worldwide.
There is no news on the Porsche Macan’s launch in India, however going by Porsche’s discreet way of launching cars, as they have done so far in India, we won’t be surprised if the Macan makes it to our market sooner than predicted. In Indian market Porsche will focus on the diesel power plant and the Macan is expected to cost north of Rs 50 lakh in India.
