The Porsche Macan (Indonesian for Tiger) has been spied testing in the cold weather. The crossover which is due to be released next year will be the German sportscar maker’s entry level heavy weight and will slot in below the Cayenne.
Taking advantage of its access to a large parts bin and global platform (MQB) under the VW umbrella, the Porsche Macan will share many of its components with the next generation Audi Q5 both inside and outside. However, Porsche has said that the Macan will be quite different and more luxurious inside that its four ringed cousin.
The engines are however, expected to be the same ones powering the Q5. This means that there will be a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo engine producing 220bhp, a 3.6-litre V6 producing 295bhp and maybe a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 producing 370bhp.
There will also be a range of oil burners which will comprise a 2.0-litre TDI (190bhp), 3.0-litre V6 TDI (250bhp). Reports suggest Porsche may also introduce a hybrid variant using the 2.0-litre petrol engine.
The Macan will be manufactured at Porsche’s Leipzig facility where the Panamera sedan and Cayenne SUV are currently made. It is expected to be launched by the end of this year and will go on sale by mid-2014. Given our love for SUVs and crossovers and more specifically Cayennes’, it is sure to be launched in the Indian market a few months after its global debut.
