We reported earlier that Porsche will introduce its hot new SUV the Macan in India by mid-year. Further to this report a source reveals that about 10 Porsche Macan S diesel have made it to our shores. We assume Porsche was waiting for the political scene in India to stablise. With a stable government in place, the company can decide on the pricing and take other factors into consideration.
We expected the Macan to be sold in two versions to begin with, a top-of-the- line Macan S Diesel and the Macan Turbo. However, looking at the import information it seems like Porsche is not interested in bringing in the petrol model this year. The Macan S Diesel will come equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 mill producing a maximum power of 258bhp and 580Nm of torque. The diesel variant can achieve a top speed of 230kmph and do 0-100kph in 6.3 seconds. This Macan S Diesel has a claimed fuel economy figure of 19 kmpl in the UK cycle which is impressive. It will get a PDK transmission and all-wheel-drive as standard fare.
According to rumours the allotted 50,000 units of the SUV for 2014 have been sold out. However, it doesn’t seem like these models were pre-booked as all imported models are of the diesel variant. The total number of 10 units does look a little less, but even Porsche is struggling to meet demand for the Macan. The import price of the vehicle is about Rs 37 lakh, after all custom duties and local taxes we expect the price of the Macan to top Rs 90 lakh as we had predicted.
