Porsche has got their newest Macan here and this one’s a four banger. Number of cylinders aside, it still pumps out 252bhp of power, enough to take it to 100kmph in 6.5 seconds from standstill. On the other hand, the price tag is down from Rs 1 crore to Rs 76.84 lakh ex-showroom Maharashtra which makes the Macan R4 the most affordable Porsche SUV in the country.
So if you are out looking for something that will be fun, will give you the bragging rights and also be practical for India, the Porsche Macan fits the bill perfectly. But so does the Mercedes GLE 450 AMG Coupe and the Jaguar F-Pace. So here’s how the Macan fares head to head with both of them.
Jaguar F-Pace
The Porsche’s comparison with a diesel SUV might feel like comparing chalk and cheese. But the similar price tag levels the ground. The design is fresh and new and it scores over the Porsche face that has essentially been the same since the 2003 Cayenne. The Jaguar is slightly bigger in size as well and the interior of the Prestige trim is plush as compared to the Porsche. On the other hand, the Porsche wins on the performance front with a 252bhp turbocharged petrol as against the measly 177bhp from the 2.0-litre Jaguar turbodiesel. Both get all-wheel-drive but the Porsche being lighter, might hold an advantage.
Mercedes GLE 450 AMG Coupe
Well, this one gets an AMG badge and a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 engine that belts out 367bhp of power and 520Nm of torque, much higher the Porsche Macan R4. Plus, being an AMG, the interior is luxurious and much more comfortable as compared to the Porsche. So, it does pip the Macan on almost all fronts. But there is something that the Porsche badge offers – exclusivity. Mercedes cars have become quite common now and with the new family face, almost all Mercedes SUVs look fairly the same. Also, the coupe on steroids look of the GLE Coupe might not be for everyone’s taste. And it is a good Rs 13 lakh more expensive than the Porsche.
