The Porsche Macan is expected to make its debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show in November and is expected to be launched in mid-2014. The compact Cayenne will be produced at the German sportscar maker’s Leipzig facility alongside the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne SUV.
Based on a global platform (MQB) of parent company VW, the Porsche Macan is expected to share many of its components with the next generation Audi Q5 both inside and outside. However, Porsche has said that the Macan will be quite different and more luxurious inside that its four ringed cousin. The Macan is expected to be priced along the lines of how the Q7 and the Cayenne have been priced with a similar percentage increase depending on the variant.
The engines are expected to be the same ones powering the Q5. This means that there will be a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo engine producing 220PS, a 3.6-litre V6 producing 295PS and maybe a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 producing 370PS. There will also be a range of oil burners which will comprise a 2.0-litre TDI (190PS), 3.0-litre V6 TDI (250PS). Reports suggest Porsche may also introduce a hybrid variant using the 2.0-litre petrol engine.
We in India should get the Macan once it is launched globally. However, where it is expected to compete with the Q5, such will not be the case in India due to the Porsche’s line up all being CBU’s and the Audi Q5 being assembled locally.
