Porsche has launched a new version of its small but pricey SUV called the Macan R4. The Macan R4 will be the new entry-level trim and will come with a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and has a price tag of Rs 76.84 lakh ex-showroom, Maharashtra.
Yes, it is a four-cylinder. But, the turbocharger on the 2.0-litre petrol runs at a massive 2 bars of boost pressure pumping 252bhp of power between 5000rpm to 6800rpm and 370Nm of torque starting from 1600rom all the way up to 4500rpm. It gets charge-air cooling along with direct injection and variable valve timing to push it past the 100kmph mark from zero in just 6.5 seconds. The Macan R4, at an unladen weight of 1770kg, is one of the lightest Porsche SUVs and gets the torque-on-demand active all-wheel drive mated to a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
It gets 18-inch alloy wheels, brushed stainless steel tailpipes and the window trims and brake callipers painted in black enhancing its sportiness. As for the comfort, you have a two-zone climate control, eight-way electrically adjustable power seat for the driver along with electrically adjustable wing mirrors and all-four power windows. The interiors are upholstered in leather and it gets an electrically operated tailgate too.
The Porsche Macan will compete with the newly launched Jaguar F-Pace and the Mercedes GLE 450 AMG in the performance five-seater luxury SUV segment. The Porsche Macan is also available in the S trim with a 3.0-litre diesel V6 engine and the Turbo that comes with a 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine.
