Porsche has launched the 2013 Cayman S in India for Rs 93.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The car was unveiled at the 2013 LA Auto Show in November. It has been completely revamped and is lower and longer, lighter and faster, more efficient and more powerful than the outgoing model. The car also gets a longer wheelbase, wider track and larger wheels. As is the case with the German automaker’s entire line up for the Indian market, the Cayman S will be brought into the country as a CBU.
The Cayman S is available with a 3.4-litre flat-six cylinder engine developing 326PS and 370NM of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheels via a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed Porsche Double clutch (PDK) transmission. When equipped with PDK, it accelerates from zero to 100 kmph in 4.9 seconds (4.7 seconds with optional Sport Chrono package) and attains a top speed of 281 kmph.
The new Cayman is – after the 911 Carrera and Boxster – the third sports car model from Porsche to feature innovative lightweight body design with mixed aluminium-steel construction. Porsche’s latest model is up to 30 kg lighter, depending on the specific model and equipment, and consumes up to 15 per cent less fuel per 100 km than its predecessor.
