Porsche India has finally brought the 911 Targa here. Available in two trims, the new 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S have been put on sale at all Porsche Centres in India at a price of Rs 1.59 crore and Rs 1.78 crore (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.
The sports car gets a revolutionary styling and awe inspiring design elements that make the car look spectacular. Within the 911 range, this 911 Targa is one of the most recognisable body styles ever created. Just like the legendary original Targa, the new model has the characteristic wide bar instead of the B pillars, a wrap-around rear window without C pillars and features a moving roof above the front seats.
This is the latest generation of the 911 Targa that combines the classic Targa concept with a highly advanced roof-activating mechanism. The roof panel in the classic models could not be opened at the press of a button and was a separate piece. This has completely changed with the new Targa as the roof panel can now be opened and closed at the touch of a button in about 19 seconds.
The power for the 911 Targa comes from either a 3.4-litre or a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine. The 3.4-litre mill in the Targa 4 produces 350bhp of power and the 3.8-litre motor under the hood of the Targa 4S churns out 400bhp of power. These engines come mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (PDK) as standard. Enthusiasts can get the optional Sport Chrono package and Carrera S Powerkit for the extra boost in power they need.
Anil Reddi, Director, Porsche India, said, “The 911 is a sports car which has won more races than any other and, in this latest evolution, I believe it has never looked more spectacular. In the 911 Targa, we see the ultimate in driving dynamics come together with stunning design and the very latest in ground-breaking roof technology. The car’s arrival here in India signifies a new chapter in the legendary model’s evolution and I am incredibly proud and excited to welcome it.”
The new 911 Targa had its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in 2014 and was expected to be brought to India following the launch of the Porsche Macan. The Stuttgart-based carmaker has finally launched the sportscar in our country which joins the coupe and cabriolet body styles to extend the 911 range in India.
