Porsche India has imported a 718 Cayman to our country for homologation purposes. The carmaker might soon launch the sports car for the Indian market via the CBU route.
The Porsche 718 Cayman made its debut at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show and recently went into production at Stuttgart. The new sports car is now also a part of the entry level '718' range, which includes the 718 Boxster as well. This car had premiered at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Sure the 718 Cayman gets some cosmetic changes in its latest iteration, however, the new four-cylinder turbo petrol mill is the most interesting change.
Speaking of this 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine, it is not only more powerful, but even more fuel efficient than the earlier flat six engines. While this new powerplant produces 300bhp of power in the 718 Cayman, the Cayman S gets a 2.5-litre version of the same mill that generates 350bhp of power. Transmission options include the seven-speed PDK gearbox or a six-speed manual. The Porsche Cayman S with the PDK and sport chrono package does the 0-100kmph sprint in just 4 seconds and achieves a top speed of 283kmph.
The new Porsche 718 Cayman's deliveries in the European market were scheduled for this month. As for the Indian customers, the wait doesn't seem to be long as the carmaker's Indian counterpart has already listed the new Cayman's models on the Indian website.
