Have your eyes set on a brand new Porsche 918 Spyder? We are afraid you will have to look elsewhere as the final model of the hybrid supercar has come off the assembly line at Porsche’s Stuttgart facility. While it was sold out quite a while back, Porsche recently announced the end of the production run of the 918, 21 months after the roll out of the first model.
Shown first at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 918 Spyder was to be made in extremely limited numbers (918 units, in fact).
The 918 Spyder is powered by a 4.6-litre V8 engine. For that extra edge, the engine is paired with not one but two electric motors. The end result is 887bhp of power and 1,275Nm of torque. Thanks to such outrageous power figures, the Porsche can accelerate from zero to 100kmph in just 2.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 345kmph.
The 918 Spyder goes head-on with the McLaren P1 and the LaFerrari. Like the Porsche, both the McLaren and LaFerrari are outrageous looking hybrid supercars built in extremely limited numbers. While only 499 units of the LaFerrari will be produced, the P1 is even more exclusive with just 375 units planned.
