- The second GT3 Touring after the 991 version introduced two years ago.
- Would get the same package as the GT3 but with fewer flamboyant parts.
Porsche was expected to bring in new versions of the 992-gen 911 at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. Instead, we got to see the all-new Taycan, the first-ever all-electric Porsche, along with the 911 4S, the four-wheel-drive version of the sports car. Now, there are a plethora of other 911 versions expected to show up soon – like the Targa, Turbo, GT3, GT2, and RS – which were also spotted testing lately. And apart from that, our spy sleuths spotted the new version of the GT3 Touring undergoing testing at the ‘Ring.
For the uninitiated, the GT3 Touring is a special version of the GT3 which comes without that massive rear wing and other hardcore aero and weight-saving packages. Which makes it as enjoyable as a GT3 but more livable like any other 911 model. The test mule spotted at the ‘Ring was not wearing the wing or the other aero bits as seen on the test mule of the 992 GT3. Instead, it had a cladded front trunk while all the other body panels looked production-ready.
However, the exciting news about the GT3 and the GT3 Touring Package is not what’s on the body, but what lurks underneath. According to reports, Porsche will retain the naturally-aspirated flat-six motor in the pair as opposed to the earlier rumours of going turbocharged. Power bump will see around 550bhp from the 4.0-litre motor which will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission alongside the PDK automatic.
Porsche is expected to reveal the Turbo versions before taking the wraps off the GT3 models. Which means we’ll have to wait a little longer to see the covers drop from the GT3 Touring. More details about the 992-gen 911 models will be revealed in the coming months.
