Porsche 911 GT2 RS to develop 640 horsepower

Porsche has revealed new details about the upcoming 911 GT2 RS. The track-focussed sports car will be propelled by a revised version of the 3.8-litre straight six engine from the 911 Turbo S, developing 640 horsepower.

The engine gets revised internals, bigger turbochargers with higher boost pressure and a titanium exhaust system. It also gets a water injection system to improve cooling. While the previous generation GT2 RS delivered 612bhp, the new car will churn out 640bhp and 750Nm of torque. Power will be sent to the rear wheels through a PDK gearbox. It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. 

Tipping the scales at under 1450 kilograms, the 911 GT2 RS makes use of lightweight materials like Gorilla Glass, titanium and carbon fibre. Further weight loss can be achieved through an optional ‘Weissach pack’ which includes magnesium wheels, titanium roll cage and a carbon fibre roof.

Reports suggest that the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is months away from reaching production stage. It will be launched later this year as a 2018 model.
